They pressed a thousand copies of the first single, sleeved everything in black with the head-and-star stamped on the back, and enforced a lineup doctrine of admirable clarity: every member is replaceable except the singer and the drum machine. Cats ratified this constitution instantly; every household already runs on it. The kitten in the star gazes upward, as the insignia requires. What it sees up there is either transcendence or a moth. Eyewitnesses report the response is identical, and the dry ice budget is enormous.
